seattle envy

I'll be in the Seattle area for awhile and I must confess this is the coolest city - perhaps my favorite. I love the style...the fab local eateries...the blooms and greenery ...and the environmental consciousness that is everywhere. Did you know that Seattle locals recycle 48% of their garbage!? That's remarkable.

I think perhaps it was the flowers that first captured my heart...check out the local lovelies at Pikes Place Market. I can't believe these kinds of glorious blooms are available at my fingertips! If I lived here, my wedding flowers would be a no brainer.

Couple things I made a note of...the green grasses (?) in the bottles, the jars with flowers, the color of those brilliant shoes, that WAGON rocks, as does the handmade plank sign. I'm seeing that all over the place and it's really starting to grow on me. Hummmm....

They make happy additions I think. Via here.

diy: photo gallery

All of these pictures below were taken from A Farmhouse Wedding...she collected a fantastic assortment of different ways to display photos at the reception.

I like this idea. A lot.

real life: 1940's wedding portraits

Georgine and Douglass: 1941

This is my collection of my grandpa's brother's weddings which all took place in Minnesota in the 1940s. Their were 9 siblings in all, and thanks to our annual family reunions, I knew all of them!

Leola and Gordon: 1942

Russell and Sylvia: 1947 (my favorite great aunt and uncle!)

Warren and Dorothy: 1940

Lowell and Doloris: 1950

Great visual stimulation here.

real life: kid friendly

This Boulder, Colorado wedding was photographed by Julie Harris Photography (see the full set of photos here). I loved so many things about this wedding...the way the incorporated all the children in their lives was LOVELY...children were their only attendants...it looked magical! I also loved how they decorated their "altar" with floating orchids...so cool.

She must be the coolest lady ever - those kids love her!

Their daughter designed the labels!

inspiration board: lovebirds II

EmilyAbigail made this RAD lovebirds collection from etsy...check it out on her blog....or do a lovebird search in Etsy to see what's available now. SUCH cute stuff omg.

real life: flagstaff forest + snow!

This beautifully simple Flagstaff wedding took place at the incredibly picturesque Nordic Center just outside of town. All photos are Melissa Dunstan Photography.

The bride and groom were incredibly good sports, as a freak snow fall started during their ceremony! On Memorial Day! What? Snow does not equal May...even at 7000 feet. Oh well, better snuggle weather I guess!

BTW...this is probably the weekend My Guy and I will tie the knot. I better remember my mittens!

what an awesome sofa.

wow...that is the look of surprise!

yum...I do enjoy a colorful salad.

bonfires are the greatest end to a celebration.

real life: forest creatures + mariachi

I found this wedding here...but there is a huge write up about it here.

This wedding made my jaw drop - I'm always blown away with how creative people are. This bride is an artist/illustrator/graphic designer which enabled her to create a unique design scheme for their wedding (visit her real life design site here). This wedding is another reminder that anything is possible...embrace your whimsy and creativity!

*I realize this isn't a mountain wedding, but there's tons of delightful forestland imagery that would work for a nature inspired gathering of any kind. Well, as long as you dig cute forest creatures...and cool mariachi bands.

That breathtaking headpiece was made by the bride.

cakes (pleural)

diy wedding cake article here

I have never seen this done in real life (and I've been to loads of weddings) but I'm seeing it more and more on the web and am freaking loving it. A cake table...for cakes (note the s). I read about it first here, and ever since then I've been seeing it everywhere.

little yummy pretties seen here

Like I've already said...I don't know if I feel the pull to have a traditional white tiered cake. The cost of it is nuts (unless my cake maker friend get's on my wedding bandwagon...hint hint).
I happen to love the idea of having a variety of cakes and pies...perhaps even tarts...to choose from.

how loud can you scream yum?? from A Backyard Wedding

this bride homemade her wedding cakes! Read about it here...

I love this concept. These cakes are simple...totally delicious (I assume...look at them!)...and I find it refreshingly modern and chic. It comfortably steps out from the "wedding cookie-cutter box."

road trippin'

Tomorrow My Guy and I head out on the big beautiful open road. We'll be driving up the Cali coast through Oregon to Seattle. Should be splendid. Just me and My Guy.

real life: cowboy boots in couture

pictures were shot by Julie Harris Photography...her blog is fantastic.

I love this bride's rad shoe wear selection - SO funky for an outdoor, out West, wedding. One more noteworthy thought...her dress was elaborate, very elaborate...not something that I tend to associate with outdoor mountain settings...just proves to me that a bride can wear whatevertheF she wants.

Have you ever seen anything like this!?
