the gift that almost wasn't

I just shared what we were planning on giving Clara for Christmas this year - with the "big" gift being a brand new baby doll.  Originally, I bought her the doll for her FIRST birthday (back in March) and decided against giving her that and instead gave her two little toy cars (which she adored!).  Needless to say it has been a few months since my eyes have actually seen this baby doll.

Went to wrap said baby doll.  Couldn't find it.  Anywhere.  Tore all of the closets apart.  Surely I didn't pack it into a moving box (we've started to pack up things like books and home decor a little bit.)  We looked EVERYWHERE.  I called my mom, and my mother in law to see if by some chance I mailed it to them over the past few months for some reason.  No luck.

So, I felt awful.  And I'm sure Tommy thought I had lost my mind.  Obviously, I knew it would show up.  I just thought it might end up as a 2nd birthday gift if we didn't find it in time for Christmas.  The world wouldn't end...no...I was just bummed I lost her gift.  (Mind you, we live in a small apartment with close to zero storage.  We have two small hall closets and a closet in both bedrooms...not exactly a plethora of hiding spaces.

The only thing left to do would be to start opening up the boxes we had packed up to see if I stuffed it in one without thinking.  Sure enough.  There was the doll, in a sea of Clara's baby clothes...at the bottom of her closet....under a few other boxes of baby clothes.

What on Earth was I thinking putting it there?

At least she will get her dolly for Christmas!
