all she wants to do is dance

I love dancing. It's the best. And we will definitely be having dance party USA at our lil wedding fiesta. Except, we are having one heck of a time finding a freakin' DJ.

We thought about doing the whole iPod option. Where we would download all of the music we want, and then rent speakers/sound system, and perhaps a mic so toasts could be given. This could possibly save us serious dough.

Except. We don't want the hassle. And the two of us aren't tech-savvy, where if a problem arose, I don't know if we could really fix it. Plus...we would still need to download loads of booty shaking tunes which could potentially cost a couple hundred bucks. Not to mention loads and loads of time. (Time is pretty much something we don't have a lot of these days!) So. This is something we would rather just hire someone to do (one less thing for us to worry about.)

However. I'm a lil picky about wedding DJs. I like when they play music - the music that keeps people on the floor! And I have serious opinions about "interactive wedding DJs" where they play games, throw on costumes and have an array of random things for the guests to participate in. I have been to weddings where they have these DJs...and not all of them have been bad - some are better than others of course. Yet, we still do NOT want a DJ like this. We just want them to play music...no games...no costumes...no tambourines...no awkwardness or forced activity. Just rad tunes.

But. We can't find one that we can afford. Sooooo...iPod option might go down.

  1. At my cousins wedding she gave the DJ a list of songs to play to get people on the dance floor. I'm not sure how long that list was, but the dance floor was packed!

  2. How funny...I posted today about what booty shaking tunes would be good to download! Fortunately we have some sound people from my fiance's church who will be helping out...even though they volunteered...we're going to pay them a couple of hundred bucks to do all the set up and techie stuff (cuz i'm clueless too!) Have you checked craigslist for DJs?

  3. We got a great deal by offering to pay the total cost up- front. Also, any DJ you hire should be willing to do or NOT do whatever you want. If you dont want any gimmics, just tell them, and they should listen.

  4. Wow. I have never even *heard* of an interactive DJ before. What the hell? I don't want to play a game, I want to dance like I'm going insane.

I like the idea of posting on CL. It might be worth a shot... and hopefully just the act of putting that question out to the universe will get you recommendations that lead you to the right person for the job.

  5. We had a trusted music savvy friend bring his ipod and used my laptop for our dance music! it worked out perfectly and no one knew the difference! in fact, some of my friends who are getting married this year asked me for my dj's number our pal was super complemented!

  6. It would still take a long time, but it would be free to download music from CDs you checked out from the library!

  7. DJ's in costumes? Wow! I get it, but are you sure you don't want tambourines? ;-)

  8. I've seen some pretty bad DJs in my day! But there are so many good ones out there, too! Best of luck and of course LOVE that photo! XO.
