new beauty routine

Eh.  Not really new.  But I kinda just wanted to jot these things down really fast.

Nails:
I'm wearing fingernail polish up until the wedding.  I hate fingernail polish.  Well, I like it really really DARK crimson/black at Christmas time...but I'm not really a polish kinda girl.  Because I bite these stupid nails all the time.  Which is gross, I know.  So I think polish will keep me from gnawing on them.  Maybe.

Cuticles:
I also have a wicked sick habit of chewing/picking at my cuticles.  It's disgusting.  I make them bleed...and I have NO freaking idea why I mutilate myself like this.  but I do.  And so I'm starting to use a cuticle cream every night.  I have been wanting to do this for a long time, but I guess nothing really kicked me in the butt to do it before.

Face:
Wash it.  Hydrate it.  Repeat.  I feel rather low maintenance about face care.  I use Proactive.  It works most of the time, when it doesn't work it's probably my own fault.  Sometimes I just crash at night and don't wash my face...so I need to be better about this.  I played around with the idea of getting a couple facials before the big day...but that's a negative now...no big...the budget needed some slicing so pampering had to go!

Skin:
This might gross you out...so maybe don't read this if you have a sensitive stomach.  A few months ago I started getting backne.  Never. Had. That. Before.  I was freaking.  FREAKING.  I devised a tricky little routine that seemed to do just the trick, and I've been all clear and smooth and perfectly freckled for the last month or so.  I'll keep doing what I'm doing...just in case.  (If you are interested, my "routine" is antibacterial body wash with .15% Triclosan, Stridex pads with 2% Salicylic acid, and Oxy spot treatment with 10% Benzoyl peroxide...keep in mind I'm no dermatologist...but this worked for me.)

Body: (Strength)
Ummm...start working out?  Ha.  No really.  I bought "30 Day Shred" and it's hard.  I've SOO missed having a gym these past 8 months...and my body looks a lot different than it used to...well...maybe it doesn't...but I just don't feel as healthy as I used to when I was working out everyday at the gym.  Hopefully I will start to feel powerful and strong again.

Body: (Nutrition)
- Continue to "eat at least one salad as a meal per day"...which I'm really thinking was a groovy addition to my lifestyle.  I can't tell you how hard it is to eat healthy at a hospital.  You don't even know how much crap is in the "doctor/nurses lounge" - we are talking donuts and bagels, homemade cookies and brownies... EVERYDAY.  The nurses and docs are all so sweet to bring treats for everyone...but my lack of will power means I eat that shit everyday.  So.  No more.  Starting tomorrow.    :-)
- I haven't eaten "out" or had any fast food in the past 2 months (save for a couple Friday night outings with friends)...which has also been amazing on my wallet.
- No more dairy.
- Keep taking those vitamins :-)
- I would try to cut out refined sugar.  But there is no way in hell I would do such a dreadful thing.  Willingly.

  1. Sounds like you've got a lot of changes to make! I've been trying to do the same thing too though to prepare for our anniversary party. Getting in workouts has been the biggest one for me! I feel you on the acne. I have had it since I was a fourth grader...and I'm 21. How sad is that?

  2. OK, the backne thing...yeah, I got it too in the months leading up to the wedding. Never had it before; never had it since. It was clearly a stress thing. The Hindsight Groom helped me exfoliate and cleanse my back the month leading up to the wedding. It really helped clear things up for that strapless gown I wore.

As for the nails, getting a $15 manicure once a week worked wonders for me. I had more of an incentive to keep my pretty fingernails looking that way.

    Good Luck!

  3. I am doing the same things, my wedding is in June -- coming up quick! And I'm doing 30 day shred too, it is kicking my butt. If you want some simple health tips, check out my fiance's health blog (www.kehreshealth.com), he has an e-newsletter you can sign up for too. Enjoy the next few months!

  4. I did the 30-day shred about a year ago (it's tough, isn't it?)...and my arms were definitely stronger at the end.

  5. Dude. I do the cuticle thing too. It totally sucks. I was being better and then wedding planning and house-buying collided and my fingers show it... cuticle cream... I will try that... I think I'm also going to start wearing thin gloves around the house (they are "spa gloves") to protect me from myself. Good luck! I've been doing this since I was a kid. I'd love it if the wedding were enough of a motivator to break the habit.
