I used to be sold on expensive mascara - I loved any of the items MAC sold. Then my student loans started kicking my ass and mini luxuries had to get re-prioritised.... and thus began my search for awesome cheap mascara 5 years ago.
The good Lord blessed me with many things...lush dark eyelashes were not one of them. Mine are blond...if I don't wear mascara people ask me if I am ill, so I tend to wear it all the time.
I don't like spider-leg looking lashes...or when my lashes all stick together...or when the lash product barely comes out of the tube requiring a gazillion coats. I can honestly say that I would try a cheap mascara (various brands really) and get disgusted and then buy an expensive brand.... it was very cyclical.
Then Christmas came and Tommy was in charge of my Santa stocking. He filled it to the brim with all sorts of little stuffers - including a mascara. I kindof rolled my eyes at the mascara.. it was Covergirl... not "good" stuff... but the fact he ventured into the makeup aisle at all was very sweet. Needless to say, a couple months later I found myself needing a new one and trying the one he got me.
IT WAS AMAZING!! I am totally sold on Covergirl's Lashblast Fusion....it's even better than the expensive mascaras I was once so hooked on. It's so funny that it took my hubby randomly picking up the first mascara he saw in the drugstore to be one that I like so much...after my years of searching!!
Are there any cheap products that you happen to love??
Ummm...in case anyone might be wondering - this isn't a sponsored post or anything - just wanted to share my cheap mascara thrill with my readers :-)

Yay! Thanks for the reco! I'm all about cheap mascara haha. But I'm running out of my current one and am always open to trying new ones so I'll make this my next kind!
ReplyDeleteOoh! I'll have to try it - I've been stuck on Clinique's "natural" mascara... but it's expensive!
ReplyDeleteI love the CG Lash Blast, but I have to wear waterproof mascara (I have stick straight eyelashes and only waterproof will hold my eyelash curler-induced curl for more than 5 minutes), and I found the Lash Blast really hard to get off. If you ever need a waterproof mascara - try the Maybelline Volume Express waterproof. It is amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe best part about drugstore mascara? As soon as it gets clumpy and/or dry, I toss it... and have no guilt whatsoever. Plus, every couple of months CVS seems to run a BOGO sale on Maybelline products. Gotta love that.
that is soo amazing that tommy bought you mascara all on his own :) and my lashes are light too. i totaly laughed at "if I don't wear mascara people ask me if I am ill." i get that too haha
ReplyDeleteTsk Tsk. Drug store mascaras are really just as good. I used to only wear department store mascaras too, but moving to a small town made it difficult. Anyway, Paula Begoun from The Cosmetics Cop has been saying for years that there's no difference.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, Lancome, L'Oreal, and Maybelline are owned by the same company and share research. For every expensive Lancome mascara, there is a L'Oreal or Maybelline doppelganger - same look and performance for less $.
Paula does have a list of "Best Mascaras" on Beautypedia. I am currently using Maybelline Define-A-Lash.
Other than my lipstick, all my current makeup is drugstore and I've never been happier with it.
I use cheap mascara too. I think my current one is by CoverGirl (It's in an orange tube).

I love Maybelline Full 'n Soft waterproof! It's not as "hard" as some waterproof mascaras..
ReplyDeleteI use Maybelline Pulse Perfection waterproof mascara, it is affordable but you will definitely like it! :) I pair it with Line Stylist eyeliner and the two of them come as a great team! :)
