i dig the texture

Remember when I told you that I used to be a professional wedding cake decorator? Back then, in the late ninety's, smooth fondant was all the rage and that's what allllll of my clients wanted. Smooth smooth smooth. No creases. No evidence of frosting. The point was for it to be "perfect."

I don't so much go for that now. I like the texture of this cake. It looks like a person made it...in their very own kitchen...it doesn't look like plastic or wax...it looks edible, tantalizing and lip smacking good. I really like that. Yum!

  1. I could not agree more. It not only looks more delicious, it looks more interesting and beautiful too.

    Now I want cake!

  2. I didn't know that! I must have missed that post...that is so interesting! I love learning interesting little tid-bits like that about people. =] My husbands Mom and Aunt will be making our wedding cake and hopefully some pies too!

  3. This actually reminds me of our cake! My sis-n-law (who is an excellent baker) made our chocolate cake, and we frosted it and made gold-dusted chocolate fondant leaves for it the night before my wedding. No bachelorette party for me, lol. We decorated it with rusty colored mum blossoms.
