american honeymoons

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I love to entertain my thoughts with this quandary. I have a list about a mile long of places I yearn to experience. Currently at the top of my list are classics like Prague, Venice, Greece, Ireland....oh and from here my list can get obnoxiously long. Unfortunately (or fortunately...depends on how you'd like to look at it) fantastical journeys abroad aren't in the cards for us this year.

So now we are looking at honeymoon spots here on our American soil. We are toying around with the idea of camping...and some places we are entertaining:

Yosemite National Park

Glacier National Park

Yellowstone National Park via here

Are you honeymooning stateside? Where are you going?

  1. Oh, I'd love to go to a national park--Glacier is incredible! But my FH doesn't much like camping or hiking (yet, I'm convinced I'll win him over eventually). We're currently debating between Branson, MO and heading towards Williamsburg, VA. I think we're just going to accept our inner tourists...

  2. We're planning on spending a couple weeks in Maine...touring around, hiking, visiting fall arts and crafts fairs. I can't wait! We'd debated Glacier, as well, but I think we're going to try and do a massive family trip there later instead.

  3. A national park sounds wonderful. I've always wanted to go to one of these. Unfortunately, we are on the east coast, and the trip would be a hassle. So we are thinking either key west or Puerto Rico because it is easy and beautiful.

Will you go camping or are their cabins or hotels nearby?

  4. We did a huge road trip and did a bunch of these parks on our honeymoon. Yosemite is highly recommended but very busy in summer months. If you do it - make sure you leave a day or two to visit the less busy but very spectacular Sequoia National Park at the same time (the giant trees). If you go to Yellowstone make sure you budget some time in for Teton National Park that's just south of YS and is totally awesome (looks like switzerland!).

  6. We are going to Mexico City and Isla De Mujeres! We toyed with going to europe or doing a fancy relaxing restort holiday, but we decided neither of them fit our budget or our personalities. So off to Mexico City for 4 days of culture, museums and fun and then we fly to Isla De Mujeres, a little island near Cancun that still maintains lots of local flavor for 3 days of beach!

  7. i highly recommend camping at mount desert island in maine. just gorgeous there. i think there are also lots of cabins you can rent near the beach if you don't want to camp the whole time.

or you could go "glamping" in a yurt at treebones in big sur, that's on my to visit list!

  9. We just got back from our stateside honeymoon. We didn't even leave the state. :) Headed down the coast from Seattle to Long Beach, WA. It was stormy and foggy one day, perfect for cuddling, and the next day crisp and sunny for walks and exploring on the beach. And trust me, all you want to do for two days is sleep. :)

  10. We're taking a 2+week road trip down the west coast and hitting up as many NP's as possible - Olympic, Yosemite, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, Redwood, Zion. We're pretty lucky as home base is Montana so Glacier, Yellowstone and the Teton's are our favorite (almost) backyard playgrounds.

  11. We joke that our honeymoon was a family trip to Mt. Rushmore because we went with my parents and some of my husband's friends the weekend after we got married. Ironically enough, we will be "honeymooning" on our way back from our vow renewal at various different locations throughout the northwest states on our way back to North Dakota. Yellowstone will be on our list!
And do try and see Yosemite- it is BEAUTIFUL there.

  12. All of those are very good options. We are planning to get married in Olympic National Park and honeymoon in the San Juan islands after.

  13. A wedding in Olympic sounds great! We just got married this summer in Glacier National Park, and we loved it! Glacier is really beautiful. We had a morning wedding, and after the ceremony, all of us went hiking together (actually to that second lake in the Glacier picture). Then, we had camping-hiking honeymoon in Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Teton. The Tetons were great too, but Glacier was my favorite! Highly recommended.

  15. We honeymooned on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Grand Marais for a couple of nights before we joined his family for a paddle/portage trip in the Boundary Waters for 5 nights. Yes, we invited his family for our honeymoon, but in all fairness, it's not as much fun a trip with 2 people as it is with 6, and our real honeymoon is next summer when we will have the money and time to spend on where we really want to go - Egypt, Israel, and Turkey! It was definitely a great time and we had the added bonus of being completely off the grid for 6 days thereby allowing us proper time to reflect and recuperate. I highly recommend a camping honeymoon!

  16. My husband (fiance at the time) and I, along with 14 of my family members rented a house in Yosemite for a week in June for my cousins wedding. it was AMAZING!! Breath taking and oh so wonderful. I highly suggest going there. There are so many fun places to visit and hike to and look at. But, as one of the previous posts mentioned... the traffic is crazy in the summer months.
I hope you find a wonderful place to visit!

We are going to Europe in June for our delayed honeymoon... so excited!

  18. I just want to go EVERYWHERE. But I especially am interested in traveling to England, Thailand, and France. With my family. Someday.

Stateside, I'd love to visit Portland, Nashville, and Yosemite. :)
