eavesdropping

I had to give a presentation this week at the local university.  While I was prepping for it I heard my little girl squealing with delight in the next room...so I quietly snuck into the room to see what was going on.  Tommy was playing with her and she was loving it.

I have listened through door cracks to Tommy read her stories.  He does voices and reads with animation.  He points out the interesting (and hidden!) details in the illustrations.  He will talk to her about the tale.  I think it's her favorite thing.

While I'm at work I will get text messages (and pictures!) from Tommy and Clara while they are out on walks, at the park or the zoo.  They go on an adventure everyday....between naps, meals, tummy time, story time and play time.  (I've even caught them dancing together - soooo cute.)

Then I come home...and my girl is fed and happy and usually in her pajamas.  As if that isn't enough, everyday that I've been back at work I have come home to a warm meal - not frozen pizzas or mac'n'cheese (which tend to be the things I "cook.")  Tommy cooks...like for real.

I don't know how he does it.  He's amazing.  I knew he would love our daughter, but I didn't anticipate what a dynamic care taker he would be.  I figured he may read a book or two to her...that he would keep her well fed, clean, and clothed, and might take her for a walk every once in a while...which is pretty much what I thought I would do if I were home.  Boy did I underestimate him.  As a parent, I think he is the absolute best I've seen.

Perhaps he's found his calling.
