my bridal portraits
Just writing that title made me giggle a little bit...it just sounds kindof silly to have a bridal portrait session already established BEFORE anyone knows we are engaged. Here's how it went down:
A friend of mine studied photography in college and now she will be starting her own wedding photography business. I'm so excited for her...following your passion is tough to do these days. So anyway, she contacted me to help her build her portfolio and offered to give me a bridal portrait session. See, the two of us are in our best friend's wedding this summer and while we were all out trying on bridesmaids dresses one afternoon I mentioned to them My Guy and my plans to wed next May. I can't keep my own secrets...I suck at it...especially if they are exciting!
To be honest with you, I didn't even know what a bridal portrait session was. Apparently, it's a photography session only featuring the bride and is usually taken well before the actual wedding (in this case, a loooooooooooooooooooooong time before the wedding.) Ha!
I'm excited. I want to try different fun looks to see what ends up looking good. Looks I'm considering:
1. wearing a big ass flower in my hair
2. trying out a hippie headband (because I love them)
3. trying out chunky southwest jewelry (holla turquoise and silver all over the place)
4. cowboy boots? (which I don't even have, yet I've lived in Arizona for a billion years)
5. what about a jazzy birdcage veil? I'm tempted.
6. photos in the desert? or our urban downtown? or the pretty Biltmore area??
I have a huge fro puff of curly blondish hair right now. Back in October I cut around 12 inches off and made it into a cute lil bob (loved it!). Now it's a lil longer...almost to my shoulders. I'm contemplating growing it long for our wedding next year (dunno..keep going back and forth on it). Also, my hair tends to gravitate to a lil more on the crazy side of life (I use to try so hard to keep it under control...now I just let it freakin' be) so I really think trying out those fun hair pieces could be cool.
I'm excited. Did I already mention that? These ridiculously beautiful pics are from here.

how fun! maybe you could do two different scenarios if you have time, to explore all your different hair/accessoryies/background ideas.
ReplyDeleteThat bride is HOT!! I think these will be awesome... helps to build confidence in front of the camera if you're not that used to it! Can't wait to hear how it goes!!
ReplyDeleteI vote big ass flower- it looks really good and fit the look.
ReplyDeleteoh, and gots to wear cowboy boots. These pics are fantastic. I think you really lucky to have these, even though they are way early. Gives you time to tweak your look.
Gorgeous! So wait... I'm curious about the logistics of keeping the secret - do your friends/fam not read the blog? I actually kept our nuptials a secret from internet-land until after the wedding.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have a fro-puff too! :) My hair gal won't let me go blonde but I'd love too.
that will be so fun! yay!!
ReplyDeleteSuper fun, can't wait to see the pics!

A. Those are gorgeous photos. (Is Stephanie Williams your friend?)
ReplyDeleteB. That is a totally generous offer from your friend. You are going to be SOOOO grateful for those pictures. And it should be a "win-win" for both of you because you will make a beautiful "model." Do you already have your dress?
C. I think you should definitely do some photos in cowboy boots. You'll have to let me know where you find your pair. I really want to buy a pair too, actually.
D. You HAVE to share some of the photos after the shoot, k?
Some clarifications:
ReplyDelete1. no, this photog, Stephanie Williams is not the friend I am referring to (I just happen to love her work!)
2. I am not the BEAUTIFUL woman in these pictures (though a little part of me wishes I was so gorgeous)
3. I have a sneaking suspicion that I won't be posting them on my website. Lil too shy for that.
