Is the grass always greener on the other side? I'm so totally enchanted with these simple and lovely centerpiece designs using potted plants in rusty containers. I do love the idea of using living plants.
But this comes after months and months of mason jar collecting. Murphy's law. :-)

ouuu- very pretty! Well, although not a permanent idea, I don't see why you couldn't plant some live herbs (like in the picture) in a few mason jars :) Seeing the soil would add to the rustic charm!
ReplyDeleteI love that idea Eco Yogini! That could look so pretty to have the soil showing.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you do both? Mason jars complimented with herb pots? I think that's what I'll be doing. (And employing my mother's greenhouse to house the plants until the party.) Two things to think about with living plants, though: 1) in order for the plant to actually LIVE, it needs to be planted in a container with good drainage which the mason jar won't do, and 2) because of the drainage issue, you'll want to make sure that you have both pots and at least some kind of saucer or plate underneath it.
ReplyDeleteI suppose one type of plant that might work well in the mason jars are succulents. (You've seen this, right?: http://succulentlovedesigns.com/succulentlove/the.shop.html#11) They don't need much water at all so you could get away without having drainage if you just didn't give them much water to begin with.
If I had enough time I'd totally be growing some herbs and flowers. Unfortunately, I kill all of my plants anyway.
ReplyDeletesimply beautiful!
ReplyDeleteO.M.G. I LOVE the birdseed in those! That would go SO perfectly with the "love bird" theme we are leaning towards. Thank you thank you thank you for posting those pictures!
ReplyDeleteUm, terrariums? I think they would be cool in mason jars!
ReplyDeletelove love love!
ReplyDeleteScatter the mason jars with candles all around your site and/or combine potted plants and mason jars on the tables. It's more interesting.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this. I love the birdseed & candles.
ReplyDeleteWe are using live plants as centerpieces and also to go home as gifts. We have a bunch of bird accents that would tie in great with the seed. You can check out my blog to see the bird cake toppers, ring nest(pillow) and flower basket.
