fave family names
Many couples will find their favorite name in a baby name book, or searching through the gazillions of baby name data base websites out there - believe me - I've spent my fair share of time on those too! (especially looking up what names mean and their origin...pretty fascinating stuff!)
Yet, my favorite thing was looking back at my family tree...finding the little gems that are already there...potentially honoring the memory of a favorite uncle or grandparent. I don't know a lot of Tommy's family's names, so most of these are from my side. I want to share with you my favorites:
(girls!)
Marcella
Eleanor
Evangeline
Evelyn
Katherine (there were a LOT of these on my dad's side of the family...like...a ridiculous amount)
Anna
Jane
Bess
Clare
Mary
Eliza
Lillian
(boys!)
David
Patrick (there were tons of these...on both sides of my family tree!)
Joseph
George (I wonder if this name will ever make a comeback?)
Harlen
Everett
Douglass
Russell
Kapitan
Vesly
Colin
Eliot
Any interesting family names in YOUR fam???

If we ever have a boy we'll probably give him Edward as a middle name since it's used a lot on both sides. Some family names I love that we have are - Violet, Gray, Josephine, Davis, Michael, Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteMy love has already chosen baby names (in a weird situation, the guy has the names, not me). He likes Penelope and Neil b/c he wants to call them Nell and Neil
ReplyDeleteMy grandma's dad's name was Haaken. I love it but I probably won't be using it. But it might be fun to have have Haak (Hawk) as a nickname. My grandpa's middle name is Winston and some family members call him by that name instead of his first, Edward.
ReplyDeleteMy grandpa's name was KERMIT! Like the frog. I wonder if THAT name will ever make a comeback!
ReplyDeleteI loove the name Evelyn! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know my family doesn't really have anything too odd, just some pretty old fashioned ones like Barbara, Betty, Harry, get this, my granddad's middle name is Milton! Haha, I doubt names like that will become popular again. But then again, who knows.
ReplyDeleteVera, Fritz, Gus, Everett, Alice :)
ReplyDeleteKapitan? That is the most fantastic of names! My sister and I (Nell and Dora) probably have the most unusual names in my family, but John/Jonathan/Jonny etc is a BIG name on both my and Ben's sides. Ben has some great names on his side of the family because they're Maltese - so very mediterranean. We'll be pilaging their names when our time comes, i'm sure! xx
ReplyDeleteThese are great! Evelyn & Everett are my favorites. xo.
ReplyDeleteEmma Matilda is my favourite. It was my great-grandmother's name and I just love it (we're Scandinavian). Now my daughter's second name is Matilda; it would have been the first one but my partner did not not warm up to it enough. :)
ReplyDeleteohhh...george is my husband´s name, but as we are spanish, we write it jorge.
ReplyDeleteYou look pretty radiant in your 26 week!!
I love Bess, how cute is that? I am so excited for you and have really been enjoying the updates :)
ReplyDeleteMuch Love!
We considered both Evelyn and Anna for our firstborn...and we came thisclose to naming our second daughter Claire (that's still a strong possibility if we ever have a third baby girl).
ReplyDeleteI also really like the names David and Eliot.

I am a HUGE Beatles fan. If I ever have a son, George is a name in my top ten.
ReplyDeleteI actually like Harrison James (obviously, Harrison for George and James is actually Paul McCartney's first name). James is also a family name: both my father and my oldest brother's middle name.
Dionysus was the surprise finds on my family tree. And the pilgrim relations named their kids Johnathan, Fear, Love and Trembling.
ReplyDeleteI love the name Levi, and the names you're considering are beautiful! Evelyn is one I haven't heard in awhile and it sounds like music!
